FAQ’s

Everything you need to know about Corian and Corian countertops…

What is Corian?

Corian is a brand name for a material which was invented in the 1960s by scientists at the Dupont company, who were also responsible for such iconic substances as nylon and Lycra. It is made from reconstituted natural materials that have been reinforced by acrylic resins to a ratio of around 2/3 mineral compound to 1/3 resin. This creates slabs that are solid and non-porous throughout. Hard wearing work surfaces that don’t compromise on a high-end elegant finish.

Why use Corian?

Ultra hygienic

Corian is non-porous which means bacteria has nowhere to hide. When a Corian worktop is cleaned it is incredibly hygienic. That is why Corian is a feature of many hospitals, health centres and other public arenas where wellbeing is a priority.

Durable

Its durability, makes it suitable for many applications and it is not only used for Corian kitchen worktops but in commercial settings too.

Modern seamless design

Corian’ s composition of one third acrylic resin and two-thirds mineral filler means that it lends itself to innovative designs with its virtually invisible joins. This means it can give your Corian kitchen worktops that beautiful seamless look that is so on trend and so easy to clean.

Resists stains

Because it is non-porous, Corian is pretty much stain resistant and very easy to clean.

A material for life

The Corian kitchen worktop may show chips and scratches over the years, but unlike other types of durable stone it can be repaired. It is a material for life.

Where can you use Corian ?

Corian is perfectly suited for any surface requirement. It’s solid, non porous properties makes it an ideal surface for both kitchens and bathrooms alike. Corian is an approved surface in the health sector, used in highly sterile areas such as hospitals, laboratories and surgeries. Corian is also widely used in restaurant’s, airports, hotels in fact anywhere were high levels of hygiene are paramount.

Does Corian stain?

Nothing will stain Corian and it is easy to clean and maintain. Because Corian does not absorb moisture and does not have any crevices for bacteria to build up on, your surfaces are 100% germ free. All materials used in manufacturing Corian are non toxic and recyclable.

Can you see the joints?

Corian seams are inconspicuous. The material is joined together using colour matched acrylic resins which are polished in. Corian joints are both permanent and seamless creating a smooth surface without gaps or fillers.

Can you damage it?

The acrylic in the Corian makes it less brittle than natural granites and marble. Therefore it is less prone to chipping and nicks. If you damage Corian, then unlike most surfaces, it can actually be repaired, making it a product for life.

Is Corian expensive?

Corian is around the same price as quartz and granite however with many more benefits. It’s a sophisticated high end product with an affordable price tag. It has endless design possibilities and will out last most other work tops.
